Between Shadow and Light is a video installation made with the collective effort of the participants of the summer program of the School of Emergencies, with support from HFBK HAMBURG. Some of the participants were HFBK students or recent political refugees from Russia. The main video narrative of the artwork is constructed as a series of portraits realized in the ruined space of the old "Villa Salomon" in Hamburg, which includes in its complex various industrial spaces currently temporarily used by the artists.

Each portrait is based on a personal story recounting memorable moments of encounter with different elements, and together they create a collective portrait of a group of people living during a time of high instability and insecurity and who are learning to live in that time. All the portraits are made as a juxtaposition of the real presence of the participant and their shadow on the screen, which according to the intention of the film emphasizes the boundaries of our existence.
