Petroleum Manga (2014/2023)

Petroleum Manga is an installation composed of enlarged prints of drawings by Marina Zurkow. The works explore the all-encompassing reality of petromodern materials through an imaginative and immersive room installation systematically depicting all common plastic compounds and what is typically made out of them.

Marina Zurkow (1962, USA) is a media artist focusing on the hidden intersections between nature and culture. She researches “wicked problems” such as invasive species, superfund sites, and petroleum codependence. Using a range of mediums such as science, animations, dinners and software technologies, Marina Zurkow fosters intimate connections between people and non-human elements through gallery installations and unconventional public participatory projects.
