Petrol Kraftstoff Carburant (1965)
Petrol Kraftstoff Carburant by Hugo Niebeling is an industry film, commissioned by the German petroleum company Aral AG. But at the same time it is an audio-visual experiment. In this film oil is refined to petrol and ultimately powers automobiles and other vehicles, set to both classical music and experimental synthesizer-sounds by Oskar Sala. Like it's east-german pendant by Uwe Belz shown in the same room, it is a celebration of petromodern movement and mobility, velocity and dynamics.
Probably no other industrial film has ever received as many prizes and awards as this film by Hugo Niebeling (1931 - 2016), who was a German Film director and producer. His work is known for industrial and music films, he is considered one of the most important and influential renewers of these genres in Germany. His style is credited to have shaped the modern music video.
