“BRUTUS is a place for wanted and unwanted art.” Joep van Lieshout
BRUTUS is founded alongside AVL Mundo; the foundation that arose from Atelier van Lieshout and has been involved in making (im)possible and (un)wanted art projects since 2006. AVL Mundo will continue to focus independently on showing contemporary, challenging art and will support the BRUTUS Foundation both financially and with inspiration. AVL Mundo focuses on preserving and opening up the work of Atelier Van Lieshout in various places in the buildings on the Keileweg and in the BRUTUS Garden sculpture garden.
On March 11th 2022, BRUTUS opened her doors, a new Rotterdam art institution or rather an artist-driven playground; the place where makers are given carte blanche to experiment.
With the continuous program, the aim is to grow BRUTUS into the new culture magnet of Rotterdam. The place where you can see art that confronts, disrupts and stimulates. Everyone is an insider, that is BRUTUS’ vision. Work by big names from the international art world is interspersed with talent that has yet to be discovered, and all art disciplines are featured: from sculpture to performance, from drawing to video. The activities of BRUTUS take place in and around the buildings of AVL Mundo.
