What? An event for inspiration and discussion
When? February 14, from 14.00 – 16.00 (Network reception 16.00 – 17.00)
Where? BRUTUS
For whom? (Visual) artists from Rotterdam and surroundings
Money Money Money. A necessary evil? A thought experiment? Or fuel for your art practice? Perhaps all three.
Money is everywhere, yet scarce. Its practical function in our pockets and abstract hauntings in our minds. These contradictions within the system of capital can provide artists with practical as well as intellectual challenges. What are some perspectives on (making) money? How do different artists approach such a vast topic, in the studio or in the world at large? This panel will explore a few methods.
BRUTUS & Cultuur+Ondernemen (Culture & Entrepreneurship) are joining forces and organising an event for inspiration & discussion. Through dialogue we will explore the various ways money operates. We will ask: what is the role of money in our society? How does money move through the arts sector and what can we, as artists, gather from these observations?
The program will include a contribution by Carlijn Kingma about her latest project The Waterworks of Money. Followed by a panel discussion with artists Carlijn Kingma, Alexandra Phillips, Daan den Houter and program manager at Cultuur+Ondernemen Anna Bilker. To finish the panel, we will also facilitate an open discussion with those in attendance. The panel will be followed by a network reception during which ideas can be discussed further. We hope to see you there!
