The Levenslust Academy, a social and artistic adventure of Pluspunt and art institution Brutus Space, presents its second exhibition on September 1st. Location is once again Brutus' large-scale site in the former port complex on Keileweg. Fred Balvert, director of Science Gallery Rotterdam and as such an expert in transdisciplinary exhibitions, events and educational programs, is curating the upcoming exhibition.

Fred Balvert: "It promises to be a diverse exhibition. The Levenslust Academy finds talent in the capillaries of the city. Together the artists tell about resilience in Rotterdam anno now."

On Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Levenslust Inspiration Lab will take place at Brutus; an inspiring symposium revolving around the powerful interplay between art and care. Program Inspiration Lab:
10.00 - Reception in the Brutus Cathedral (entrance Brutus Garden).

10.30 - Start plenary opening with a short podium program by Levenslust Academy artists

10.45 - Introduction and program by moderator Siebe Thissen
Siebe Thissen is a Rotterdam historian and philosopher. From 2000 to 2022 he was head of Visual Arts & Public Space at CBK Rotterdam, where he managed art in public space. Thissen is the author of several books and articles on philosophy and urban art and has been involved for years in the connection between art and care within Pluspunt.

11.00 - Keynote speaker Dr. Sandra Trienekens
Sandra Trienekens is a social geographer (MA) and cultural sociologist (PhD) with a focus on citizenship, diversity and art. Since 1999 she combines scientific and practical research on the changing cultural sector. She has worked at universities in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and was Lecturer in Citizenship and Cultural Dynamics at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam from 2007 to 2011. Her current work focuses on participatory arts, sector renewal, and intersectoral collaboration within the cultural sector.

12.00 - Experts in conversation with moderator Siebe Thissen
Expect an interactive conversation about art and care from different perspectives. Panelists: Joep van Lieshout (Visual artist), Rick Boerman (Trajectory supervisor Pluspunt), Wendy de Rijk (Kwartiermaker participation Center for Services), Meo Bhola (Livelihood artist) and Sandra Trienekens.

13.00 - Delicious lunch prepared by Pluspunt with musical entertainment by Boortorrie (Lastplak & Pluspunt)

14.00 - An inspiring presentation on Arts in Health by Prof. Dr. Tineke Abma
Art can contribute to a future-proof healthcare system in the Netherlands. This is why Arts in Health Netherlands advocates the integration of art in health care. The white paper Arts in Health: a national agenda helps with this. Prof. Dr. Tineke A. Abma is Extraordinary Professor of Arts and Care at the Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management (ESHPM) in cooperation with Cordaan and Museum van de Geest from September 1, 2024.

14.30 - Closing.
We close the day with a wrap-up, gathering the ideas we have gained for the future. Curator Fred Balvert introduces the Lust for Life expo, after which you can view the exhibition. Enjoy snacks and drinks in the sculpture garden, accompanied by once again musical entertainment by Boortorrie. Baas Mastercreations (experiential art & care) and Jeroen Kuster (Brutus Lab) invite you to create a collaborative artwork - for those who really want to get a feel for arts in health in practice.
