On Saturday, March 2, 2024, both budding art enthusiasts and seasoned museum visitors will have their fill in Rotterdam. During Museumnacht010, the city by the Maas River transforms into a vibrant art hub, with nearly 40 locations opening their doors for one evening only. The program of almost 100 activities – including exhibitions, tours, workshops, performances, and live music – is now available online. Participating venues include Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, TENT Rotterdam, Kunsthal, Laurenskerk, Nieuwe Instituut, Brutus, Maritiem Museum Rotterdam, Huidenclub, and even the Koopgoot.
Visitors will have plenty to choose from during the upcoming edition of Museumnacht010. Each participating museum, art institution, and gallery has crafted a special program to entertain art enthusiasts during this extraordinary evening. The result? Nearly 100 activities to choose from.
Program Brutus:
Be an insider and experience the place where art disrupts, confronts and stimulates. In the deepest rooms of the former port complex you will find the ''Destroyed House Brutus" by Marjan Teeuwen. Disruption and destruction can be felt in this semi-permanent architectural installation. With ''The Hero, the Villain and the Truth'', Folkert de Jong shows you how history comes about and how it could have turned out differently. A confrontational theatrical exhibition with distorted versions of historical figures such as Luther, Jesus and Mary, Snoop Dogg and Queen Wilhelmina. Let all your senses be stimulated by the industrial monster ''Disco Inferno'' from Atelier Van Lieshout. The immersiveness of the installation will be increased this night with a live performance by New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra. A special composition to "Disco Inferno" will be written for this evening by our very talented guitarist and composer Jelle Roozenburg. A spectacle of the industry and its potential in endless movement and sound.
This night a unique cinematic physical theatre performance will occur by Cinzia Nistico called ''TRANSFE/R''.
TRANSFE/R is the outcome Nistico’s year long research on 16mm film, optical sounds and the possibility to perceive film as a living creature on stage. This project has an experimental approach to analog film and uses it mainly as a support to organic material growth (fungi), projections and as sound source. The original movie “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers” describes the systematic replacement of a small-town’s population by emotionless alien duplicates growing from seedpods. The clones’ growth and the citizens’ replacement happen while they are asleep. In the original movie, the process of substitution is never fully shown.
TRANSFE/R is an imagination and abstraction of this “missing” scene and intends to unfold the clone’s growth from fungi and subsequent replacement of its corresponding human.
(Re)discover the art that Rotterdam has to offer during Museumnacht010.
Personal route through a bustling Rotterdam
To help visitors navigate, the five ambassadors of Museumnacht010 – this year designer Bobbie Visser, filmmaker Kee van der Meer, alternative hip-hop artist Michael Ekow, sculptor Kasper Boelens, and model Taylie Hu – are curating routes for adventurers, art connoisseurs, dreamers, thinkers, and night owls. These routes will be available online in the coming weeks.
In 2024, Museumnacht010 will debut a smartphone app, allowing visitors to easily create their own route, view the program, and discover all locations with an interactive map.
Museumnacht010 takes place on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 8:00 PM - 1:00 AM at almost 40 locations throughout Rotterdam.
Tickets online presale from Monday February 5
